I enjoyed the conversation on the role of social media... it's the kind of stuff I've been including in my weekly reports into the http://www.forimmediaterelease.biz/ podcast for over 3 years now
Thanks again Alec

Nick #1 was my attempt to call in w Skype (could not be heard or raise hand). Nick #2 was my POTS call.

fonolo was the only service/product to get a "10" from any of the judges.

isn't there a heuristic in pr about "don't dignify (give credibility to or draw attention to) attacks from weaker opponents"? is this different in social media?

The Naoimi Klein "No Logo" movement is at play.

Did I ever tell you that one of my hobbies is shopping for groceries?

Also - individuals (the bright ones) are well aware of how much marketing costs - and many prefer NOT to accept the premimum cost involved in taking the branded product

or the mini-itunes library: 1000 songs

Is there any concern about quality? They could sell higher bit rates, surround, etc.

how many interactions have you had with coca cola in the last 30 days? facebook? i trust that coke will be coke. nothing new each time. but facebook experiences were varied. and more meaningful re my social graph and social capital
So clearly one will trust ones social network over the big marketing surrounding a brand
Agree with you James.
I can believe this - the diference between a commercial brand and a social network is that the former is a mechanism for making money, the latter is all about individuals that are friends and that you trust
social networks ARE brands

Promotional thumbdrives are de facto standard give aways these days
If I was faced with a choice between two flash card products, identical in all ways including price, but one with extra 'content' pre-loaded - I would undatably choose the one with 'extras'. I am a sucker for buying the Sunday newspapers with free DVD, even though I only ever watch a small proportion of those I collect...

but I use FLAC for in-house, MP3 for portable use

as long as the pipes are too thin, edge storage/caching has the advantage.

The 'Hockey Night in Canada" song writer had an issue with CBC this past spring with the result that another network has licensed it and there has been a contest for a replacement song on HNIC this fall. Over 50,000 entries.

Yes! The cloud is not universally available
