Squawk Box - July 10, 2008 - Voice Biometrics - Special Guest: David Standig, VoiceVerified.com Conference call organized by Dan York

Agenda
Do you remember the 1992 movie "Sneakers" with the phrase "My voice is my password"? Voice "biometrics" has come a long way since those days and today our special guest, David Standig of VoiceVerified.com, will talk about the current state of the industry and technology and also about what VoiceVerified brings to the picture. More info at:

http://www.voiceverified.com/

Full Disclosure: VoiceVerified does have a business relationship with my employer, Voxeo, which I outlined in the blog post linked below. Regardless of the business affiliation, I just think their technology is cool and is something worth talking about.

Ed - good questions, I'll ask

In other words, is one voice authentication solution any better than another?

My favorite question when it comes to biometrics. As you mention, you're relying on proprietary solution to protect against recorded voice. That will be broken at some point in time. What do you do when it is broken? i.e. people can change their password but cannot change their voice easily

So what makes VoiceVerified better than the others in this space?

I would like to hear how the voice biometrics recognition copes with disrtion introduced by different codecs and transcoding disrtion

You mention that the protection against recorded voice is proprietary and kind of secret. I came over here to learn more about that.. could you guys talk more about it?
picture
it sounds like someones typing is overriding the speaker

Dan York said:
I'll ask about that

I would like to hear more about how the "liveness" test works (without leaking an proprietary info)

James Body said:
I think that the possibility of using voice biometrics as an authentication method is hugely exciting - but in order to be a viable proposition it must be reliable AND affordable/cost-effective
