Call Dashboard

Squawk Box Sept 5 - Apple as Censor, The Gates / Seinfeld Ads, and Telecom Industry Change Conference call organized by Alec Saunders

Agenda
First, Apple appears to be censoring applications in App Store. Yup. "Pull my finger" was turned down because of "limited utility". My take? They're trying to preserve the value of applications on the App Store. People want a field of dreams, not a field of trash.

And what about Microsoft's gates / seinfeld ads? I thought they were funny. But were they effective?

And how about the latest 3G numbers, showing the US vaulting ahead of Western Europe in 3G penetration? How should we interpret these? A sea change, or the inevitable march of progress.

And speaking of the change, what about the continuing transformation of telecom industry as wireless now accounts for more than 50% of revenues, according to FatPipe's Gary Kim.

Lots to talk about this morning.

Dan Rockwell said:
yeah i dont see jailbreaking happening, what i see is focus shifting from the app store to 3rd party authority blog/app awareness portals where an audience, almost like digg voting, tells you what is good and what is not

William Volk said:
The issue there is discovery USED to exist, Apple used to promote them,

Turned out I needed to have what's called a 4000 series SIM card to handle 3G; the use of my former SIM card that worked on EDGE had problems.

Dan Rockwell said:
but the discovery process is starting to suck on the app store cause you have to wade through so much, and theres a trend now because of all the stories of people making an app in a weekend and cashing in overnight where more and more apps are not free, they are 1-8 bucks

Not VOIP's best day is it?
