Phil Wolff said:
thanks, Mike
Mike Bartlett said:
@Phil: It's showing for me. Give it maybe a little bit more time, if it's still not appearing if you could let me know I'll chat that up as that's really important for me.
James Body said:
I'm a Skype fan
James Body said:
Steve - we are up for the challebge - Ed Guy is revved up and ready to get engineering!
Phil Wolff said:
Mike, I've had it for more than 24 hours and I still don't have the feedback button.
Steven Sokol said:
James: There's a huge opportunity for 3rd party development with Skype For Asterisk. It will be interesting to see what people build with the 4.0 client on the desktop and SFA on the server.
ha!
James Body said:
Skype for the iPhone?<br/>
Dan York said:
:-)
Dan York said:
We usually have to wait for the recording to stop to hear James' snarky comments.
he must have been into the pink drinks...
remarkable
Dan York said:
Whoa... Body actually *speaks* on a Squawk Box call!
Phil Wolff said:
Q. Will there be a 3.9 release?
Phil Wolff said:
Q. What features did you try to get into this release that slipped?
Ian F. Hood said:
k
I do wish Skype would break out statistics for revenue sources.
Ian F. Hood said:
Dare I ask why hardware phones don't support linux?? I have to have an xp machine just for my handset
James Body said:
Not just Asterisk users - also those who will use Asterisk to get into Skype
Phil Wolff said:
Q. Is there a way to restore the feedback button in 4b2?
I anticipate they will, Steve!
Dan York said:
Steve - that would be great to see. :-)
Steven Sokol said:
Just wait. Asterisk users will make up a serious portion of the revenue.
William Volk said:
except for anti-virus software. We don't pay for it
James Body said:
Quantity has a quaility all of it's own
Dan York said:
Hudson - Yes, you're right, many Mac users *are* probably more in the "power user" camp and would probably NOT be thrilled with a full-screen version.
Ian F. Hood said:
It's hard to hold up to your ear
James Body said:
I would love to run video conferencing between my Mac and a 3G mobile handset
Skype just released there first embedded Standalone Video Phone as well - http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/09/asus-announces.html
James Body said:
Dan - I use Skype on my Mac as my preferred mode of communication - being able to look someone in the eye whilst discussing complex issues really does assist comprehension
Contrary to reputation, Mac users are in many ways increasingly oriented to power; power users. Will they therefore be even less enthused about the big-screen GUI?
NP.
@thanks for muting me, loggedined from laptop with speaker on
Dan York said:
James - I'm a dual-user, too... I run Windows in VMware or Parallels on my Macs... but the place where I use Skype all the time is my Mac.
NP
Ian F. Hood said:
@ Alec ty for muting me, I had skype'd in without the browser open
James Body said:
I'm a dual user to - I run Windows and Linux on my MacBook Pro
todd - what is the headset you're using?
indeed!
James Body said:
(A bit funy to be talking about the benefits of high quality audio - using narrow band grotty audio!)
James Body said:
Mike - can you get a bit closer to the microphone
Jim Courtney said:
Hard to hear Mike.
James Body said:
What we would like to see is seamless interworking between Skype and other IP based services/applications. Keeping Skype as a closed community is somewhat limiting. We all love Skype and use it extensively, but there are certain areas in which Skype does not quite get to - and for these scenarios it would be great to use another non-Skype application
Jim Courtney said:
Polycom has shown at shows that you have to experience HD Audio to understand its value.
Dan York said:
I don't think people can understand the power of wideband until they actually *experience* it.
Jim Courtney said:
Here's a poll from Pamela's Dick Schiferli: http://www.polldaddy.com/p/965088
William Volk said:
I wish I could add people to a call, both PTSN and Skype
very good point, Hudson.
Tom Orr said:
Good point.
It seems beta testers are pre-disposed to get some paid services. So you could easily have been fooled by results that indicate 4.x will promote paid services.
Dan York said:
Sounds like the "drawer" grouping of chats that we all have in the Mac version of Skype.
Tom Orr said:
Try to explain to home users what an Asterisk server is...LOL
Tom Orr said:
VoIP didn't take off with not tech users until an appliance was offered. Any plans to offer a Skype appliance?
Compact View is fantastic - massive improvement.
Love compact view. The large view just takes up too much screen real estate for me.
Dan York said:
Bill - me, too. :-)
William Volk said:
waiting for Mac version
Dan York said:
Alec's blog post says that what he likes most is the Compact View: http://saunderslog.com/2008/09/30/skype-40-beta-2/
sorry Ian - your fan was very loud.

we have some echo on the line. If we have anyone using a speaker phone, or a PC with microphone and speakers, could you please mute your line.
James Body said:
Who here has downloaded and tested Beta2? I have been a little busy and have not had a chance (and I have a Mac)
