and Rod Ullens too
Alwaysoncarl said:
i will have you, john todd and shockey in that discussion
Alwaysoncarl said:
we should have that debate
James Body said:
For a number of reasons
James Body said:
On balance I think that we like ITU telephone numbers best
Dan York said:
jkohlen@gmail.com
James Body said:
I think that or view is that an end point for services is the same, irrespective of whether it is identified by an ITU assigned number or an IETF URI or even a propritary 'Buddyname'
James Body said:
The problem is that we are setting ourselves up as an INTERNATIONAL operator so we cannot escape from the devilish detail
Alwaysoncarl said:
about wireless settlements with in the EU member states
Alwaysoncarl said:
that is why Viviane Reading is advocating so hard
Alwaysoncarl said:
yes but you aren't so lucky when dealing with intercountry
James Body said:
It is clear from the European viewpoint that the current N American system is overly complex and is based upon legacy procedures
James Body said:
Is the 'tax' somewhat less for a nomadic/mobile service?
Alwaysoncarl said:
so as to force reform
Dan York said:
What about the state governments who are addicted to their state taxes on telephone fees?
Alwaysoncarl said:
make it the worst model that exists today
Alwaysoncarl said:
that says absent bill and keep
Alwaysoncarl said:
i know there is a poison pill position internal to one of them
Alwaysoncarl said:
sort of
Dan York said:
So we have AT&T, Verizon and Qwest *supporting* the bill-and-keep reform... and we have the rurual carriers opposing it?
Mark Hewitt said:
"Microsoft: U.S. Broadband Policy 'Total<br/>Failure'"<br/><br/> <br/><br/>http://tinyurl.com/53s77j
Mark Hewitt said:
Did you see that even Microsoft calls the US Broadband act a total failure
Alwaysoncarl said:
but i will ask
Alwaysoncarl said:
i know you living in a rural area would be a significant
Dan York said:
Sorry... my connection died... was my question answered around whether there is any value in *individuals* sending in comments?<br/>
James Body said:
Get it dealt with quickly before the administration changes!
Mark Hewitt said:
Yes - did you see how watered down the Senate version of the Broadband act was: http://broadbandcensus.com/blog/?p=787
Dan York said:
Right... Jan 20, 2009 is the end of the Bush administration.
Alwaysoncarl said:
i am sure its the packet sniffer between us
Alwaysoncarl said:
no worries
Dan York said:
(Sorry for the poor audio today... having IT issues.)
Dan York said:
Can *individuals* submit comments as well?
Dan York said:
Is there a deadline for these comments?
Dan York said:
"Permanent fees don't belong on the Internet. Geographic fees are hard to do and have no place in the world of IP."
Dan York said:
What can companies do?
James Body said:
Sure
Alwaysoncarl said:
yes
James Body said:
Next week?
Alwaysoncarl said:
james will you add your take on Emergency services around the world?
Mark Hewitt said:
I will; Rick and I have a call at 1:30 today
Alwaysoncarl said:
invite them for next week please Mark
Mark Hewitt said:
We should talk after the conference
James Body said:
Aha
Mark Hewitt said:
I have a working JV using there technology for our EOC technology; currently our ECOSoft group is working on a FEMA project
James Body said:
Which?
Mark Hewitt said:
Yes
James Body said:
Mark - are you connected commercially with Vixxi - or do you use them?
Dan York said:
Is the VON Coalition info page the best place to stay up on this? http://www.von.org/info.asp
Alwaysoncarl said:
will do
Mark Hewitt said:
Carl - we should ask Vixxi to join one of our regulatory sessions
Mark Hewitt said:
Interesting that Vixxi has now delivered a reverse 911 VoIP based PSAP - an EOC "Emergency Operations Center" can appear directly into any PSAP regardless of the source.
Alwaysoncarl said:
thats the taxes
Alwaysoncarl said:
we do that too
James Body said:
Subsidizing the rural services on a per minute basis appears to be a really bizarre way to support infrastructure. Paying a subsidy to each rural service would appear to be a better model to use
Dan York said:
Or is someone blogging about this? (that we could read about)
Dan York said:
Is there a URL for this decision being discussed?
Alwaysoncarl said:
what is local service rates in the UK James?
Alwaysoncarl said:
yes
James Body said:
27 cents per minute?

James Body said:
Hmmm - have not heard about Vixxi - what is that?
James Body said:
Converged VIP/GSM devices that offer nomadic services do present particular challenges - but we believe that although it is not easy, these challenges may be met!
Mark Hewitt said:
Vixxi has been leading the VoIP and SIP based 911 solution - currently in place in over 30% of the major PSAPS
Mark Hewitt said:
We had this discussion some time ago with the disclosure of Prior Art from ACT Networks in the early 90's
James Body said:
Sorry to be late on parafe!
