SquawkBox Thursday August 13 - FREETALK Everyman - Not just another headset! Conference call organized by Alec Saunders
Agenda
About two weeks ago Skype announced the FREETALK Everyman headset – a low cost headset with the goals of providing a consistent level of audio quality, including full support for the SILK technology included with Skype for Windows 4.1 and Skype for Mac 2.8, in a format that adds some versatility and is easily packed up and carried around. But you’re probably asking what sets the FREETALK Everyman apart and how did this product come about.

Join me Thursday morning when I’ll be interviewing Jim Courtney, Editor and Publisher of Voice On The Web. Jim has recently been working with In Store Solutions, producer of the FREETALK Everyman, facilitating a program for social media and blogger trials of their new hardware launches this autumn. During this interview will Jim provide background not only on why the FREETALK Everyman but also about In Store Solutions who has become the leading Skype hardware merchant globally.

Will SILK be offered in the Skype for SIP or Skype for Asterisk projects?
Jim, if you want to test it later, let me know.
Randall, you can plug the headset portion into the iPhone
Andrew said:
Randall, technically possible - but the manufacturer would have to embed the codec.. hopefully Apple and other will do it..

the headset also works on Linux.. the driver is universal which is quite cool.
James Body said:
I use a Logitech USB headset at present - why should I change?
Yeah -- I get what you're saying Michael.
Andrew said:
Its another piece of the puzzle Alec.. the more people you can get up and running easily and quickly. the better
Michael Graves said:
I prefer "wideband telephony" or "wideband voice"
Michael Graves said:
Curios how the term HDVoice is becoming universal when it's someones registered trademark.
James Body said:
Sorry for being complex Alec - too many variables!
That makes it tough to diagnose James. UK POTS we don't have a problem to that POP.
thanks for coming Dan!

Very cool stuff... I've got to drop off to go to another meeting, but it's great to see things like this coming out.

VoIP using Finera
james - how are you dialing into that Monmouth pop?
James Body said:
Why 12 kHz and not 16 kHz sampling?
Michael Graves said:
PSTN & G.711 bridge kills the effect of the headset
James Body said:
I would like to see both 2.5 and 3.5 mm jacks
